It was in 1974 when a dynamic, anointed and spirit-filled young woman named Angela Spivey (b.k.a. Angie), was inspired by God to organize a young adult choir at her Father's pastorate, the First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church on Chicago's West Side. A devout young believer in the Deliverance Power of God, she aptly named the choir, "The Voices of Victory." Little did Angie know that the Lord had ordained a great work for her and "The Voice." Shortly after their organization, with Angie as the cornerstone, God began preparing the choir for their mission. Most artists are blessed to have one gift operating but God had already placed in Angela an abundance of gifts: a natural leader, directress, writer and a sho-nuff Gospel singer, in the spirit of legendary giants such as Shirley Caesar and Dorothy Norwood. One has only to hear or see her a short while to feel the anointed preacher in her soul.

So first, God took the nine charter members and through Angie, fashioned in them a power filled song and a spiritually energetic performance that immediately began to attract others to the choir and generate invitations to share their music at churches across the west side. Soon, all Chicago knew that "if you want to have some Church, call on Angie and The Voices.

Over the years the choir membership grew as well as their reputation and Angie began accepting engagements throughout Chicagoland and was soon appearing on major programs across the city, winning souls as well as electrifying fans. As they appeared with the greats of Chicago and the Nation, they were always attentive, learning all they could from each great artist and event. After witnessing Angie and the choir perform, the legendary "Queen of Gospel," Albertina Walker, was overheard saying, "What ever she is drinking… I want some!" For Gospel Music lovers across the nation who like their Gospel uncut, witnessing Angie live, is to be reminded of what a Shoutin' Good Church Service is all about.

With the 1995 debut release of "Victorious Praise" for Aleho International Music, music buffs in the Gospel Music Workshop of America gave Angie and The Voices an "Excellence Award" for "Best New Traditional Artist of the Year." The Voices were also finalist for a 1995 Stellar Award in the "Traditional Choir of the Year" category.

On their 1997 follow up CD "In The Church," Angie and the choir blessed the word with the rocking "In My New Home" and her vocals on the hit title cut from The GMWA Radio Angels', "So You Would Know" shined the light on her incredible talent, energy, and anointing. "Glory, Honor, and Praise," from Angie and the Voices, garnered Angie the 2001 "Traditional Female Vocalist Excellence Award" and her work on the smash hit single from the project, "These Thorns" has earned her a finalist berth at the 2001 Stellar Awards in the same category. In the spring of 2003, the annual Chicago Music Awards proclaimed Angie's latest and first solo project "I'm Determined," the "Best Gospel CD." On August 9th, 2003, she swept the GMWA 2003 Excellence Awards winning, Female Vocalist Of the Year Traditional, Album Traditional, Best Video and the coveted Artist of the Year Award. In 2003, Angie was also nominated for the 2003 Soul Train "Lady of Soul" Award, in the Best Gospel CD category.

As the accolades and hits keep coming, Angie continues to say, "Yes" to the will of God, who recently called her to preach His Divine Word. Her ordination was December 30, 2001, at her home church, the First Corinthian Baptist Church in Chicago, but let there be no doubt, Angie will remain on their mission "to encourage the saved and redeem the lost" through her ministry in song. Project after project and song after song, Angie will continue to bring testament to the awesome power of God working in the lives of His people.

When you're ready to go to church, Angela Spivey, "The Anointed Princess of Gospel" can and will take you there!
